Heyyyyyy, Folks...
Arrived home Monday morning at 8 am... would someone please tell me why the best flights to and from LV are always in the middle of the night????? :{<>
We stayed at the Gold Coast on Flamingo Dr ... wonderful view of the white stucco wall of the casino 12 feet from our window. Now, before you pass judgement on this view ... it wasn't all bad! And, I'll tell you why. I looked out the window at 5:00 am Saturday before the show, and said... "Whoa! It's already daylight outside!" Mr Evo looked out the window at 9 pm Saturday after the show, and said..."Whoa! It's still daylight outside!" Made you feel awake and ready to go and see and do. Actually, the sky was pitch black... but you could only see that if you squatted down by the window and looked up at the real sky. Las Vegas does that sort of optical illusion, psychological thingy well.
And, to continue that "only in Las Vegas" line of thought... Saturday morning before the show, I presented one of the cashiers with a $100 bill to pay for our breakfast. She said... "have to get change" and proceeded to walk out of the restaurant. Mr Evo commented ... "Do you realize you just let a perfect stranger walk out of this restaurant with your money?" I laughed... said to another cashier... "I just let a perfect stranger walk out with my money. You DO know her, don't you?" She immediately shook her head and said... "Never saw her before in my life". I LUV Las Vegas! And yes, my change did make it back. :}>
The show was at The Orleans... and I was fascinated by the larger-than-life Mardi Gras masked heads hanging in the casino lobby. Absolutely beautiful!
First, I want to thank our helpers! We left Florida begging for help. We ended up with 5 wonderful stampers and one non-stamper (but now Zhana's a stamper, for sure) ... fantastic help! Everyone got breaks during the day, and it worked out beautifully.
Mega thanks to Helen, Zhana, Jessie, Faye, Melissa and Connie. I sincerely hope the day was as fun for you as it was for us!
Got to see soooo many of you! Robin who's been ordering from us for eons ... Edie from Oregon... Sharon from Utah ... Nancy and David of Libra Impressions from Hawaii... Carol from Michigan... Pokey Mary from LV... Bobbe... JanMike (both of them) and... soooo many more!
I didn't get a chance to wander around all the booths. Wish I had. But, I did hear of one new (to me) company and wish I had taken the time to visit. Lenderink Technologies, Inc... introducing Paper Wood...paper-thin wood veneer for stamping. And... lo and behold... I saw their product yesterday on the Carol Duvall show. Sychronicity. :}>
Kristy of Time To Stamp threatened me with my life if I didn't mention her in my show/people report, sooooo.... I gotta do that:
Kristy, cute as a bug...
Gave me a smile and a hug...
And said she wanted to be in an Evo rhyme.
Sheryl Porter was with her...
And Kristy said... "Come hither...
I want to see us in your report this time!"
There you go, Kristy... Was fun seeing both you and Sheryl again! Sheryl and I have known each other for years, but this was the first year we've ever been at the same shows, and both shows were in Las Vegas. Amazing.
The only real glitch in the show was trying to get unloaded for set-up Friday. It was truly a nightmare. 45 vendors, and only 2 at a time were allowed by the hotel at the loading dock. Now, it doesn't take much math to see the problem this presented. If each vendor only took 10 minutes to unload... (har har)... it would still take 7 1/2 hours! :{<> We were 3rd in line when we arrived to unload, with some vendors already at the dock. Some vendors with dollies chose to park and walk their stuff down the hill (being down hill helped)... others, like us, had to wait for that call to proceed to the dock.
Orchids to the vendors at the loading dock when we were there. Everyone helping everyone ... to speed up the process of unloading. It was a joy to see.
This show next year will be a two-day show and will be held at the Cashman Convention Center. No elevators, no steps. Sounds good to me. :}>
OK... time for Evo to gripe. I don't find that need often, but I gotta do it today. One of Cevo's prize card samples walked away from our booth at this show. Was sort of the-straw-that-broke-the-camel's-back for me, since my two walked away from the Portland show a month ago, and up until this show, I had been keeping Cevo's card close by me to make sure it wouldn't disappear. These were pop-up-folded cards developed from an idea that granddaughter Stephanie and I came up with this summer... an 11 yr old mind and a 60 year old one... and we were soooo pleased with our creativity. Takes a tad of time to do, and Cevo and I don't find a lot of time to make cards, as much as we love to. All three gone now. Luckily, I did scan them, so we can re-make them when time allows, but I'm upset that so many of you have been robbed of the chance to see them at these past few shows.
For those of you who missed them... here they are on a web page created in August:
pop-up cards
They're the first 3 on the page. The 3rd one didn't scan well at all... the silver cardstock between the red oval and black cardstock shows up dark, but that's life. The 4th card is now missing two of the flower parts... I had left them lightly tacked on the card so all could see how the parts were folded ... so I need to re-do that one, also. Heyyyyy, I think I hear "Play Time" calling me! :}>
Oh, and before I forget... I scanned a card last night that originated as a demo at one of the shows, and I really like the concept. Stamp your images ... then simply cut out spaces for the background paper to show through, rather than actually layering. This sample shows images stamped on aqua paper lightly stippled from top to bottom ... then 1/8" areas cut out between 1/4 " areas, (I used the Rectangle and Rectangle/Betweenie EvoTemplates), then lifted out. Then all mounted on black paper and on a larger aqua paper. And, be sure to save those lifted pieces for embellishments of other cards. :}> cutlayer card
